Going Green in Hawaii Kai Homes
We're reading a lot of articles in the press now about how to make our homes more energy-efficient. While some of the suggestions don't apply in Hawaii (cleaning the vent to the furnace for instance), there are some basic steps we can take to help our beautiful Hawaii environment stay green.
A recent article quoted the President of Legacy Construction, who said, "It's no surprise with rising energy prices that homeowners want to maximize home performance with green remodeling options."
Here are a few ideas we can use in Hawaii Kai:
1. Installing more energy-efficient windows
2. Using high-efficiency air conditioning systems
3. Using high-efficieny kitchen appliances
4. Using high-efficiency washers and dryers
5. Using water-saving faucets and fixtures
Also consider tankless water heaters - which heat water on demand instead of continuously - and solar panels for your power needs.
The National Association of Home Builders is creating a National Green Building Standard, which provides guidelines for new construction and remodeling using authentically green methods. The time has come to think Green - it just makes cents.
