Hawaii Kai to Enjoy Renovations at Aina Haina Center
There are lots of changes going on in the Aina Haina Shopping Center, not far from Hawaii Kai and an easy drive. Foodland just announced its 59-year-old original store will be renovated over
the next few months into Foodland Farm, with gourmet, organic and locally grown foods at competitive prices.
Genki Sushi is putting the finishing touches on its spot neighboring Foodland
Farm. Cake Couture Cupcakes has been relocated to a more prominent location,
looking very chic and busy.
At the east end is silent space, where Chuck E Cheese and the martial arts studio used to be. Uncle Clay of Doe Fong remodeled his store into a destination cafe.
In a few weeks the 76 service station will be razed and rebuilt with a new
streamlined and aesthetically pleasing station, housing the same tenant, just
with a better fit with the rest of the center.
What 'Aina Haina residents had feared won't ever materialize, according to CBR
Ellis Realtor Fred Noa - a conversion to a multi-level
center. He said, "Our commitment to the entire community is to clean it up, beautify
it, and make it a safer pedestrian destination." They are considering pedestrian walkways and meeting with principals of the Medical Center.
The tenants are optimistic traffic will increase and the remodeling will effect positive change. For residents of Hawaii Kai, it brings more choices and shopping-dining opportunities just a few minutes away.
